Sherry was back on a section three and was being observed every five minutes as she was on suicide watch. Her dreams of getting better and being released were all shattered now. She felt that her situation was now hopeless and she would never get out of hospital.
On the 19th of July at five thirty Monday evening Sherry was found in her room with an item of clothing tied around her neck. Sherry was not breathing and had no heartbeat she was given CPR and transferred to Royal Preston Hospital.
Sherry's vital functions were re started and she was put on a ventilator but she did not regain consciousness. Tests indicated that Sherry was severly brain damaged and the doctors suggested that I think about withdrawing Sherry's treatment and turn the ventilator off.
The ventilator was turned off the next day at five thirty in the evening and Sherry continued to breath for herself for the next three days. I stayed with her at her bedside watching her fight for every breath until death finally ended her suffering at ten minutes to one early Friday morning. It was a nightmare seeing your loved one go through this with nothing you can do but watch, it is an experience that will stay with me for life.
