Sherry was allowed to smoke, she was smoking rollup cigarettes. Sherry would use these cigarettes for self harm, burning herself on her forearms and face causing extensive blisters and sores. All these practices were being performed while Sherry was under the direct supervision of staff on a section three. Sherry was under constant surveillance on a two to one observation regime

When I finally got to visit Sherry I almost did not recognise her, she had almost no hair and her face and arms was covered in scabs and blisters from the burns. I was horrified. The staff told me there was little they could do as Sherry would burn herself quickly?

When I commented that all the sores on Sherry's face would cause scarring and would present further problems for her to deal with in later life I was told not to worry as she could have plastic surgery!
